409L stainless steel is a ferritic stainless steel, which is a low-carbon, low-chromium stainless steel. It is widely used in automotive exhaust systems and other occasions where corrosion resistance is required but cost control is relatively strict.
Chemical Composition
C % | Si % | Mn % | P % | S % | Ni % | Cr % | N % |
0.03 | 1.00 | 1.00 | 0.040 | 0.020 | 0.60 | 10.50-11.75 | 0.03 |
Performance characteristics
Corrosion resistance: better than ordinary carbon steel, slightly lower than 304, but sufficient for mild corrosive environments
Heat resistance: excellent, suitable for use below 600℃ (such as automobile exhaust systems)
Welding performance: good, low carbon + titanium stabilization to avoid intergranular corrosion in the heat affected zone of welding
Processing performance: easy to form, stamp, and draw
High cost performance: low nickel content, the cost is much lower than austenitic stainless steel (such as 304)
Application
Automobile exhaust system
Engine peripheral heat protection components
Building structural parts
Heat exchange equipment housing
